About this meditation: When we are relaxed, studies show that our brains have greater access to creativity, earning relaxation - especially meditation - a well-deserved spot as one of my Top Keys to Sparking Creativity.
I invite everyone to enjoy this calming experience designed to both relax and inspire you, especially if you've been feeling creatively blocked and are having trouble getting started on a project or you're feeling stuck while in the midst of one. I invite artists and writers of all disciplines use this meditation before you begin your studio work for the day.
Not a visual thinker or a regular meditator? No worries -- even looking at images of nature is said to have relaxing benefits, so you can follow along with the relaxing visuals in the video that accompany the narration if you prefer.
The personal touch: This meditation story and imagery resulted from my inspiring lake walk on August 24, 2026. I created both the guided visualization and the video based entirely from my own unique experience -- I do not ever use any "generative" AI.
Disclaimer: For entertainment purposes only, and since we are all unique individuals, results may vary. This meditation is not a substitute for medical care or advice. Meditation isn't for everyone, so please ask a wellness professional if you aren't sure if you should try meditation, particularly if you have mental health concerns.
Unexpected feelings and emotions may be highlighted during the practice of mindfulness meditation. If you have any concerns, please talk to a healthcare professional before you practice. (Adapted from The Mindfulness Collaboratory, Pratt University, with their kind permission.)
